Is your skin ready for a little Spring Re-fresh? Here at Dermatology Center of Atlanta, we think April is a great time for some spring-cleaning tips for your skincare routine.
First, take a look at your current skin care products.
Are they past their expiration date? Replace those. Do you have some products that do not seem to be working, or are not working as well as they used to? Next, inspect your equipment.
One of the most beneficial things you can do for your face is washing it every night with a gentle cleanser to get impurities off of your skin before going to bed. Wash or change your pillowcase often and if you are wearing a face mask, make sure it is a clean one!
How often do you clean out your makeup bag? Holding on to products that you rarely use? Is it an absolute mess? It’s time to take everything out of your bag and clean up. Wash your bag if it is washable. Use a cleaning antibacterial wipe to wipe off inside the bag and wipe off the products as well. Check for expirations and throw out anything past its expiration date.
Don’t forget about your cosmetic brushes. Dirty makeup brushes can harbor harmful bacteria and they are often the culprit behind clogged pores and persistent breakouts. Brushes should be cleaned regularly with warm, soapy water (use baby shampoo or mild bar soap). If some are old and worn out, it’s time to toss them and bring in new ones.
Finally, use a DAILY Sunscreen.
The best way to fight aging and prevent damage is to use a broadband sunscreen that is SPF 30 to 50 every single day. If you have specific skin care concerns (acne, dryness, aging) be aware that many sunscreens offer sun protection with added skin benefits.
