We use the SkinPen, which is the only FDA-approved microneedling device. The SkinPen uses tiny needles with highly-controlled movement to create up to 3 million micro-channels in the surface of your skin.
The SkinPen® microneedling device causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cell damage. More specifically, SkinPen starts the three-phase wound-repair process:
Phase 1: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and create new tissue.
Phase 2: Proliferation. The wound is re-built with new granulation cells. Plus a new network of blood vessels develops.
Phase 3: Remodeling. New dermal tissues and blood vessels replace the wound.
The benefits of microneedling are a reduction in the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Microneedling also has a positive effect on hyperpigmentation as well as on acne scars, and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin.
We treat the face, neck, chest, and hands.
We don’t want you to feel anything! We ask our patients to arrive at least 30 minutes before their appointment to allow for adequate numbing time. And while some areas are more sensitive than others, discomfort is minimal.
The procedure takes 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed in appearance, like a moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on certain areas. This will diminish significantly within a few hours following the procedure. Within the next 24 hours, the skin will often appear to have returned to normal. After three days, there is rarely evidence that the procedure has taken place. Utilizing quality skincare products can help to speed up the healing process, so be sure to ask your provider for recommendations!
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
Some patients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 2-4 week intervals.
